1pc of Multi bottom can cover 15x15cm area. 2ft is equal to 60cm long & at least 30cm wide. Therefore, it should be 8 pcs for 2ft. Let say Multi Bottom can last for 3 mths, which mean it only enough for 1 yr. Correct me if i'm wrong. :)

Normally with the 'long' bottom we snap it in half. I'd use 3 sticks for a 2ft.

Dom said that for a 4 feet tank, 4 pc of Multi Bottom per year and stan said that he'd break them in half...so, mixing both opinions, i get that 4 pc multi bottom for 4 feet tank = 8 broken into half pcs...

but going by the 15X15cm calculation, you need about 24 broken into half pcs of root tab = 12 pcs.

doesn't justify what Dom said, i'm missing something in that conversation i guess. someone please explain, super noob and totally lost in conversation here...
I'm a super noob, so if i say anything dumb, please forgive me.

i come up with crazy ideas often. therefore, i'd be asking you guys how to improve those ideas. most would be useless, but some are worth the shot, so, when its too dumb, just bear with me.

At the end of the day, you're only going to do as much as the plant requires. Too much and it's a waste and too little there's no effect.

Just go with the manufacturer's recommendation. For me something like having some is better than none.
I've found out that you can't really see the effect. Just a vague feeling that yeah something is happening because it's slow acting. May take a week or weeks before it kicks in so you really have no idea.

More important are CO2 and potassium. If you don't dose those the consequences are more dire and you see it in a day or two.

[wow this is two year old advice]

so, basically you're telling that the only real way to find out is trial and error. what works for you might not work for me, right... thanks...

Yup, that's what it is. All setups are different.
Quality of lighting, type of plant, plant mass, filtration efficiency etc.
For a manufacturer to even come up with the right dosage, they have to average out all these variables.

From their style of tanks you can at least expect similar results if you follow their notes. Check out the Online Aqua Journal.
